Analyst: Amazon may account for a third of all U.S. ecommerce

Amazon.com has been grabbing for more market share in this down economy. So how much share does the company actually have?

RBC Capital analyst Stephen Ju attempts to answer that question in a research note today -- and concludes that Amazon "may be facilitating close to a third of all e-commerce in the US."

Ju estimates Amazon's share of U.S. ecommerce activity at 34 percent in the fourth quarter of 2008, up from 27 percent in Q4 2007. The research note says Amazon continues to add share, driven by its third-party sellers, and adds that international "remains a source of opportunity."
