Microsoft today reported that unique visitors to Bing.com were up 8 percent in June, the search site's first month under the new brand. The numbers suggest that the early gains reported by some independent firms were on the mark, but the industry will be watching most closely to see what happens when the comScore research firm comes out with its report, showing how Bing stacked up to Google and Yahoo.
"We saw 8 percent growth in unique users to Bing.com in June, which is an important indicator that you are trying Bing and the word is spreading," the company wrote on the Bing blog. "Based on our own polling, we have also seen the number of people “likely to recommend” Bing double in our debut month. This is an important metric to us because we think it speaks to Bing’s ability to meet your needs ..."
Much of the increase in traffic has resulted from positive reviews and television ads. In the latter category, the company says in the post today that more advertisements are on the way soon.
