Don't let your youth go to waste

What do Bill Gates, Sergey Brin, Larry Page and Steve Jobs have in common? They all started powerful high-tech companies in their early 20s.

So, if you are of the belief that disruptive business concepts come from youthful exuberance, then it might be worth checking out the "Best Young Tech Entrepreneurs of 2009" from BusinessWeek. Two Seattle area entrepreneurs make the list, including 29-year old Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz and 26-year-old Kabir Shahani of Appature.

The story also notes how much the founders have raised, with Fishkin building his company with $1.1 million and Shahani bootstrapping with an initial investment of just $4,000.

Others on the BusinessWeek list include Cloudera's Christophe Bisciglia, Sim Ops Studios' Shanna Tellerman and Aster Data's Tasso Argyros. In total, 20 entrepreneurial groups made the list.

More on serial entrepreneurs versus first timers from Redfin's Glenn Kelman, who writes that every large technology titan (Dell, Yahoo, Amazon, etc.) was founded by someone under the age of 30.
