I almost got ill watching the latest product demo from VholdR, the Seattle startup which today introduced what it is calling the "World's First (and lightest) HD Wearable Camcorder." The demo, which can be found on the company's Web site, shows a mountain biker cruising over a dusty path at high speeds. As the biker flies over jumps, your stomach nearly drops.
The $300 camera, which attaches to goggles and helmets, is designed to capture the thrills and spills that go along with outdoor activities such as mountain biking, skiing and motorcycling.
Water-resistant and made from anodized aluminum, the four ounce camera is designed to take a beating. It also can capture up to eight hours of HD video, with the system allowing for easy editing and uploading to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
In this tough economy, a $300 camera to record skiing and biking activities may seem like a big expense. But VholdR's Marc Barros -- who is working with REI and Amazon.com on the launch -- said he expects sales to double or triple this year.
