Job interviews are more difficult at Microsoft than at Apple. But interviews at Amazon are the toughest of all. And job candidates feel a lot better about the interview experience at IBM than at Google.
Those are some of the unscientific nuggets gleaned from a new Interviews section launched tonight by Glassdoor, a site that offers inside details such as employee salaries and executive approval ratings at major companies. The new section uses information from job seekers to rate companies on such factors as the difficulty of their interviews and how people felt about the process afterward.
The section also includes sample interview questions, and negotiating tips, among other inside information. The feature could prove to be popular in the tough job market, with candidates looking for every edge they can get. As with the other features on the site, the information is free, but users must first contribute a review of their own to gain access to the full slate of information.
Here's how some of the major technology companies stack up so far in the Glassdoor interview ratings.
Google (21 reviews): Difficulty Rating: 3.7; Interview Experience Ratings: 37% positive; 18% neutral; 45% negative.
Apple (35 reviews): Difficulty Rating: 2.8; Interview Experience Ratings: 68% positive; 17% neutral; 14% negative.
Yahoo (14 reviews): Difficulty Rating: 3.0; Interview Experience Ratings: 81% positive; 12% neutral; 8% negative.
IBM (10 reviews): Difficulty Rating: 2.8; Interview Experience Ratings: 81% positive; 19% neutral; 0% negative.
Microsoft (36 reviews): Difficulty Rating: 3.6; Interview Experience Ratings: 65% positive; 14% neutral; 22% negative.
