Amazon hires publishing vet to build Kindle content

Amazon.com has been steadily adding digital content including books, newspapers, magazines, and blogs to its Kindle store since launching the electronic reader in 2007. Now the company is bringing in a veteran of publishing giant Random House to expand its offerings. David Naggar, who served a variety of roles at Random House, is coming on as Amazon's new VP of Kindle Content.

Naggar was president of audio and before that director of sales at Random House. In early 2008, he joined a firm called iAmplify.com, a "Web-based content publisher and syndication network." Amazon spokesman Drew Herdener said Naggar will be "working with the team to continue building a massive selection of content in the Kindle Store."

According to a 2008 iAmplify news release, Naggar at Random House "created numerous new businesses for digital distribution of content while simultaneously growing traditional hardcopy sales" and "successfully negotiated several major deals including three Harry Potter audiobooks and Bill Clinton's MY LIFE audiobook, as well as the first deals to put Random House content into Starbucks and on iTunes."

Amazon's Kindle store currently lists more than 250,000 books, more than 30 newspapers and 25 magazines.
