People in the Internet business joke about Microsoft assembling its own Yahoo, one person at a time, but more and more that's actually looking like the Redmond company's strategy. Microsoft has now hired Jan Pedersen, former chief scientist in Yahoo's search and advertising division, according to this report from Joe Tartakoff, the former Seattle P-I reporter now with paidContent.org.
Pedersen worked most recently at Amazon.com. But he joins a growing list of Yahoo alumni at Microsoft. Others include Live Labs head Gary Flake, MSN executive producer Scott Moore, search veteran Larry Heck, search engineer Sean Suchter and Qi Lu, the new president of Microsoft's Online Services Business.
Microsoft executives have said they remain interested in combining with Yahoo's search business, which appears to be the only way the company could quickly gain significant ground against search king Google in U.S. market share.
